Three-time Olympian, Chika Chukwumerije, on Thursday, advised Team Nigeria to the Rio Olympics to be good ambassador at the Games holding from August 5 to 21 in Brazil.

Chukwumerije, who spoke in Lagos, said the Olympic-bound athletes must see themselves as the eyes of the nation.

He commended them for their qualification for the Games, noting that it was with hard work and determination that they excelled in the various stages to secure tickets to the Games.

“I applaud these athletes who have put in their best from national trials to series of qualifiers to pick slots for the Olympics; however, Nigerians still expect more from them.

“Olympics are Games involving countries across the continents; it is therefore necessary for our athletes to portray good image of our nation because the foreigners see Nigeria through them.

“The actions before, during and after the competition in Brazil goes a long way to speak volume of us, so, I urge them to be good ambassadors,’’ he said.

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Taekwondo bronze medallist, charged the athletes to put in their best while competing and endevour to make the difference that would bring glory to the nation.

According to him, this is an opportunity for them to fly the “Green-White-Green’’ flag and have their names written in the good book of sports heroes of the nation.

“In spite of the unpleasant preparation, I know they are objective, I wish them a medal haul and advise them to put their destiny on the Games for brilliant performances,’’ he added.

Team Nigeria would feature in Athletics, Wrestling, Table tennis, Rowing and Canoeing, Boxing, Weightlifting, Football, and Basketball.
