Three shot as thugs attack Ahmed’s convoy

There was pandemonium on Wednesday in Isapa, the hometown of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kwara State, Senator Simon Ajibola, as heavily-armed thugs attacked the convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
Freedom Online learnt that the thugs, suspected to be working for the PDP, wanted to stop the APC campaign in the area and when the APC campaign team resisted, some of them were shot.
Many were wounded but three were fatally shot.
Ahmed, while speaking with reporters, said it is only God who can save one of them “because he is in a critical condition in the hospital”.
Many APC vehicles were also damaged.
When APC members in neighbouring towns learnt of the attack, they mobilised to storm Isapa but were stopped by a combined team of mobile policemen.
The commander of the policemen appealed to the youth to give peace a chance, promising to arrest the culprits.
Ahmed said: “We have remained committed to a peaceful campaign everywhere we have gone to and we have been to virtually all the communities in this state without any problem.
“However, its quite unfortunate that as we were coming here, our advance team was met with resistance by some misguided youths. Some of our people were shot and they have been rushed to the hospital. One of them was very critical and we don’t know what will happen to him but we are praying that he survives it.
“It is very unfortunate and it was not expected because we have been carrying out our campaign peacefully and we intend to continue to do so and we would not allow any misguided group to truncate our record of peace in the state.”
