Two secondary school students , Kamdi Okeke and his sister, Indrani, have donated 200 pieces of face shields they made themselves to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu State as their contribution to the front line service providers in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
The donation was also part of the roles of their initiative, “The Youth Advocacy Against COVID-19”.
The teenagers had recently made and donated 150 pieces of face shields to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital , ESUT, Park Lane, Enugu.
The donors said that they were moved to go into producing the face shields, taking into consideration, the danger the medical personnel are exposed to treating COVID-19 patients, giving the idea, “To give back to the society “.
The siblings, whose mother is a medical officer, said they were motivated by their mother’s medical background.
They commended the front line workers for their efforts.
Responding after taking delivery of the items, the Chief Medical Director of UNTH, Dr Obinna Onodugo, thanked Kamdi and Indrani for their donation.
He said officials of UNTH had continued to put in their best to ensure safety of members of the society who depend on them.
The CMD commended the students for their efforts and initiative, even as dependants.
He promised that the hospital would translate their kind donation to greater service delivery in the fight against COVID-19 infection in the state.
The face shields were made of transparent plastic cover, worn overhead with the face projected downwards to cover the eyes, nose and mouth.
