Taraba Queens on strike over 18 months unpaid salary

Players of Nigeria’s women league club, Taraba Queens, have begun a strike to press for the payment of 18 months’ salaries.
The players have said they will not return to training until their pleas have been met by the Taraba State Government.
“Our management have not been straight forward with us and the government has not responded to our SOS,” said one of the players.
“We have not been paid for 18 months – 10 months from last season and eight from this season.
“Most of us have turned to begging as feeding has become a big issue for us.
“Many of us are the bread winners of our families, but now we can’t cater for them again.”
Last season, the state’s male team, FC Taraba, staged a much publicised pay strike to protest the non-payment of their salaries for over a year.
