Supreme Court judgment vindicates Plateau PDP – Chieftain

A PDP chieftaina in Plateau, Chief Latep Dabang, has hailed Friday’s Supreme Court judgment that upheld the election of Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of the state, saying that it vindicated the party.

Dabang, who was the Director-General of the PDP Campaign Organisation during the general elections, said this in his reaction to the apex court’s verdict on the governorship poll.

He spoke during an interactive session with newsmen in Jos.

The Appeal Court had on Nov. 19, 2023 nullified Mutfwang’s election as governor, citing the “lack of structure” in PDP as its reason.

But the Supreme Court in its verdict, set aside the judgment of the appellate court, insisting that Mutfwang was duly elected in the March 18, 2023 poll.

Dabang, who also described the judgment as “victory for democracy”, further said that the decision of the apex court had “redeemed the sinking image of the judiciary in the country”.

He said: ”This judgement has brought hope for the common man that the judicial system can be relied on for justice and fairness.

”This judgement has vindicated the PDP in the state, that it obeyed all the court orders.

”It is unfortunate that some of the lawmakers elected under our platform have become victims of the rascality by the appellate court, but we will explore the possibility for a review.

”Generally, we are happy that the Supreme Court has given hope to the people of the state,” the PDP chieftain said.

He called on the governor to put events of the past behind him and forge ahead with his developmental strides.

”Our governor is a man with deep faith, so I urge him to forgive all his distractors and move Plateau forward,” he said.
