The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday reversed the guilty judgement and sentence passed on chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George by a Lagos High Court.
While ruling on the matter, a panel of judges headed by Justice John Afolabi Fabiyi, ruled that charges of “contract splitting” upon which George was convicted is unknown to law.
The court discharged and acquitted George claiming that prosecutors at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) could not convince the court that George intended to commit fraud at the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) where he was Chairman of the NPA board.
