Senate President Godswill Akpabio has extended birthday greetings to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, as the respected traditional and Islamic leader marks his 70th birthday.
Akpabio conveyed his message through a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh.
The Senate President described the Sultan as a distinguished statesman whose life has been characterised by service, wisdom, faith and dedication to Nigeria’s peace, unity and development.
He praised the Sultan’s leadership over the years, saying his reign has demonstrated courage, responsibility and commitment to promoting harmony among Nigerians.
According to Akpabio, the Sultan’s contributions have gone beyond religious leadership, with his influence extending to national dialogue, peaceful coexistence and efforts aimed at strengthening unity across Nigeria’s diverse communities.
The Senate President said the milestone birthday was an opportunity to celebrate not only the Sultan’s age but also the positive impact of his years of service.
He highlighted the Sultan’s role in encouraging interfaith cooperation, supporting good governance and advocating for peaceful relations among citizens.
Akpabio noted that the Sultan’s voice of moderation and wisdom remains important as Nigeria continues to seek greater understanding, tolerance and national cohesion.
“Your reign as the Sultan of Sokoto has reflected grace, statesmanship and a strong commitment to peace, unity and national progress,” Akpabio said.
He added that the Sultan remains “a father to all and a moral guide for the nation,” while acknowledging the bridges he has built across Nigeria’s different communities.
The Senate President, on behalf of his family, constituents and members of the 10th Senate, prayed for Allah’s continued blessings upon the Sultan, including good health, strength and many more years of service.
He wished the Sultan continued success in his efforts to promote peace, wisdom and inspiration among Nigerians and the global Muslim community.
“Happy 70th Birthday, Your Eminence. May Allah continue to preserve and bless you in His service, the service of humanity and our nation,” Akpabio said.
