Strike divides Labour leaders; Wabba okays action, Ajaero opposes; FG insists on ‘no work, no pay’

Labour leaders, on Tuesday in Abuja, failed to agree to present a formidable force to fight the Federal Government on the increment of the price of a litre of petrol from N86:50 to N145.
While the Joe Ajaero faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) decided to set up a committee to negotiate with the government, the Ayuba Wabba faction walked out of the meeting with the government delegation.
Addressing reporters after a meeting his faction had with the government, Ajaero said both parties decided to set up a committee to look into the issues and come up with a report “in two weeks”.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State was with Ajaero during the press conference.
But during another meeting the government had with the Wabba faction, the parley was deadlocked.
Wabba and members of his team walked out and declared that the strike action would commence on Wednesday.
But the government replied immediately, saying that its policy on ‘no work, no pay’ will prevail.
