It is worrisome to note that people take maximum delight in ruining other’s reputation. These set of people have ‘destructive tendencies’. They oil their own ego by pulling other people down.

Tacit collaboration by millions who bite their lips is more essential than lip service by thousands of favour seekers.

In recent years, the issue of character assassination gained prominence mainly due to public interest in issues concerning incivility. This no doubt, dealt a big blow on the psyche of many, to the consternation of others.

Rational thinkers are of the view that one mistake people should never make is to be allowed to be recruited by someone, to hate another person who has not wronged them. This is because what people say about others, says a lot about them.

Essentially, character assassination is a pervasive and destructive phenomenon that is found everywhere; in families, schools, politics, work places, etcetera.

Character Assassination is the deliberate, malicious and unjustified effort to damage the reputation or credibility of an individual, especially committed, redoubtable and conscientious public office holder.

It is the slandering of some evil intentioned people usually with the motive of destroying public confidence in that personality.

Indeed, false allegations are the most chronic form of mental abuse. Just llike seasoned Gynecologists will always say, “When people cannot kill one’s dreams and purpose, they will try to assassinate the person’s character”. There are some people that one’s spirit will always irritate their demons!.

Once they realize hating is not working, they start telling and spreading lies about the person. Political or Public office holders and big wigs in the society are usually the target. It is true that people are assassinated once but ‘Character Assassination’ kills daily! Character assassination is a form of emotional violence against others.

However, the Yoruba Youths Progressive Movement (YYPM) led by its Coordinator, Comrade Adekunle Michael Adeniyi, has expressed strong indignation and accused the National Assembly committees of sheer blackmailing of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on the alleged mismanagement of N467m.

Adekunle, in a strong worded statement issued in Ibadan said the current media war against NDLEA and its dutiful and hard working Chief Executive Officer, retired General Mohammed Buba Marwa is just a smokescreen to force his unblemished hands to line legislators’ pockets, going by the widespread allegations of same pattern in the National Assembly over the past years.

Comrade Adekunle stated that “the corrupt practices occured in 2015-2016 whereas TRD General Mohammed Buba Marwa took over in January 2021. How then do they expect someone who took over in 2021 to answer or defend a corrupt practices that occured five years before he assumed the position as Chairman”.

The Movement admonished the Chairman of NDLEA not to be distracted, remain focused, patriotic and not to compromise his values for transparency and accountability.

The statement reads in part: “The report emanating from the 9th Session of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Retd. Gen. Muhammad Buba Marwa has shunned the investigative hearing by the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly on the alleged mismanagement of N467m, has been described as a blackmail, ploy to assassinate his reputable character and a media conspiracy.

This is orchestrated , masterminded, and escalated by the Senate Committee in an attempt to ridicule, intimidate, frustrate and harass the NDLEA’s Chief Executive Officer into submission for a behind-the-doors negotiation for unwarranted and unmerited huge financial inducements.

YYPM thus enjoined the Senate to stop the unwarranted distractions targeted at total disruption of the effectiveness and unprecedented combative approaches against dreaded hard drugs’ barons and traffickers being currently waged vigorously by the courageous and highly patriotic Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Retired Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, who was not the Agency’s Chief Executive Officer at the time of the alleged financial infractions being investigated by the Senate.

YYPM disclosed that it is in possession of impeccable evidence that the current NDLEA leadership was never served with any summons or invitations by the Senate Public accounts Committee, headed by Senator Mathew Uroghide”.
