Striking doctors to Akeredolu: Respond to our demands

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) has decried that only 50 per cent subvention is released to state universities by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.
The Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), chapter of the union lamented the underfunding of the universities, saying it would cripple the institutions as the full subvention was not even enough to cater for its needs.
The institutions are Adekunle Ajasin University of Science and Technology, Akungba Akoko, OAUSTECH, Okitipupa, and Ondo State University of Science and Technology and University, Ondo Town.
The union made this known in a statement signed by Mr  Temidayo Temola, the SSANU Chairman of OAUSTECH chapter on Thursday in Okitipupa.
“We are once again taken aback by the decision of the state government to release only 50 per cent of our subvention.
“It is important to say that the backlog of subvention being owed the institutions for many years have not been paid, so payment of full subvention cannot even pay half of the salaries and other expenses of a university as at today.
“It is important to note that the three universities in the area are not equal to one, while comparing to any other state universities in terms of infrastructure, personnel and others hence, under-funding these universities in any guise is inexcusable,’’ Temola said in the statement.
The union, however, appealed to the state government to reconsider its stands on funding these universities properly with full and timely release of subvention to avoid the standard being compromised.
