The National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity), Abeokuta Ogun State Chapter, has expressed deep concern over the increasing rate of Covid-19 infections in Ogun State in particular and Nigeria at large.
The spike has called for concerns of all stakeholders and implore the Governor of Ogun State under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun to be alive to its responsibilities in enforcing its own laws especially the physical and social distancing Safety protocols which were enacted to mitigate the spread of the disease.
In a statement on Friday and signed by the Cap’n of the Association in Ogun State, Steve Oliyide, it noted that the second wave of the infection should give everyone cause to worry and to collectively work around identifying the causes of the new spread.
“As an association, we feel the need to call everyone out and take responsibility at this trying period in our health care delivery system. And we are deeply concerned that the government has looked the other way while religious organizations and politicians are gathering people for Conventions and social functions in total breach of that Safety and prevention protocols.
“Without mincing words, we all cannot sit down and pretend not to know that large gatherings in utmost disregard for safety measures have been largely responsible for the sudden spike and the new wave of infection.
Religious organisations no doubt have been very guilty in this respect while the government and politicians have equally disregarded these.
“The National Association of Seadogs is, however, deeply concerned about the ineffectiveness of the laws which were enacted by the government to curb the spread of the pandemic. We, therefore, wonder of what essence were these laws when the government is incapable of enforcing same.
“We, therefore, call on the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to be charged to his own responsibilities as the Chief Executive Officer of the state in protecting the lives and health of the citizens.
