Although President Goodluck Jonathan has accepted the outcome of the March 28 presidential election, a group in the South-South has threatened to declare war against the Hausa and Yoruba for their gang-up against Jonathan.
It said Jonathan should have been allowed to continue in office because of his achievements but “the Hausa, Yoruba conspiracy did not allow this”
The South South Voice, which described the outcome of the election as ‘unacceptable’, warned that the nation may face another round of crisis, unless issues relating to alleged conspiracy against the people of the South-South are addressed in the interest of the nation.
Members of the body, in a letter addressed to Jonathan signed by their National Coordinators, Mr Victor Tamarapreye and Michael Akpodore in Benin, the Edo State capital, noted with deep concern that Jonathan was manipulated out on March 28.
To them, it will be against the interest of the South-South for Jonathan to handover to Major-General Muhammadu Buhari on May 29 “because Buhari is a beneficiary of the Hausa, Yoruba conspiracy”.
The letter reads: “We, the undersigned for and on behalf of numerous concerned people of the South-South geo-political region of Nigeria, wish to inform you that we are not happy with the way and manner the election was conducted and it will be wrong to hand over power to the wrong person.
“The election was rigged massively to favour Gen. Buhari and we will not accept such result. Even though we are heading to court but we want to warn first so that Nigerians will understand where the trouble is coming from when it commences.
“Secondly, You Mr President was coaxed and intimidated to accept the outcome of the election by the International Community and the so-called Peace Makers Committee in Nigeria.
“There was a total gang-up against you from the Northern part of Nigeria, irrespective of party line, as well as the issue of under-age voters which we all observed in several states of the North. You have performed more than any President Nigeria has ever produced in your first term in office, despite the distraction from the North.”
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) is behind the insecurity in the North-East part from the confessions of those that decamped from the APC to the PDP. And this they strategically did to destabilise your government so that the world will abuse and blame you for the crisis.
“Mr President Sir, we don’t believe that the chances of the South-South should be thrown away based on the intimidation by the North.
“Any attempt to take our warning for granted will be resisted. The aggrieved people of the South-South are capable of fighting if the need arises. This is the first time the South-South will be getting this opportunity and we don’t know when else we will get it with the kind of gang-up we saw recently against you and your administration by people who pretend that they love you but go behind you to stab you”.
