To ensure the safety of priests and parishioners, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan-Kukah, has suspended all Masses in Sokoto metropolis.
This was contained in a statement on Saturday by the Director, Social Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Rev. Fr Christopher Omotosho.
Omotosho noted that Kukah’s residence was not attacked though rampaging hoodlums vandalised and torched two of the parishes presided over by the fiery preacher.
Following the murder of a Christian student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, Deborah Samuel, by some of her Muslim colleagues over alleged blasphemy, two of the suspects were arrested.
However, there was riot in Sokoto on Saturday by some fundamentalists, demanding the release of the suspects.
