nigeria_police_logoA MEMBER of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Murtala Attahiru Wauru, was on Monday night shot dead.

Wauru, represented Gada West State Constituency and was the Chairman of Finance and Appropriation Committee before he was killed.

It was gathered that he went to a meeting in the afternoon and the gunmen were said to have trailed him on his way home about 9:30p.m. and shot him dead around Mabera Area of the Sokoto metropolis.

The killers left with his vehicle.

A witness, who lives in Mabera, said he was sitting outside his house with his friends when they heard gunshots. They saw the occupant of the vehicle being shot and immediately, they ran away.

“We were sitting in a group when we heard gunshots. We were all scared. Some of us even ran away to take cover,” he said.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Al- Mustapha Sani, confirmed the incident.

At a press briefing, Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Shuaibu Gambo, described the assailants as hoodlums.

“The preliminary investigation carried out as at the time I visited the scene revealed that some hoodlums on motorcycles trailed and cornered the deceased. In the process, the victim seemed to have struggled with the hoodlums before he was shot dead”.

Gambo, however, assured that the police would ensure that the culprits were brought to book.
