The sit-at-home ordered in the entire South East successfully stopped the Nigeria @61 Independence celebration across the five states on Friday.
Roads were empty, public places shut as residents stayed indoors in compliance to the order to protest the marginalisation meted on the people of the zone
Some public institutions removed Nigeria’s flag and the annual march past by schools to mark October 1 did not hold.
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB had ordered a sit-at-home to frustrate the October 1 Independence celebration and make a bold statement on their quest for self determination.
The pro Biafra group also ordered that Nigeria’s flags be brought down on the day.
There was total compliance across the states of the zone with most institutions removing Nigeria’s flags completely.
Major roads and streets in all the state capitals were deserted just as stadiums and other Central venues for October 1st parades and March past were also deserted.
Despite the huge presence of the police across the states, residents did not violate the sit-at-home order.
