Showmax, an online streaming platform, says its popular telenovela  titled “Wura” has attained 100 episodes, the milestone marks the end of its hugely popular first season.

This is contained in a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by Ibukun Oluwafunmi, Public Relations and Communications Associate of ID Africa Marketing Agency.

Oluwafunmi described the 100th episode as a significant landmark for the series that earned the lead actor and titular character, Scarlet Gomez, a nomination for Best Actress in a Drama at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCAs)

According to her, viewers can relive all the suspense, melodrama and intertwined story moments of Wura Adeleke and the citizens of the Iperindo community by binge-watching the entire first season on Showmax.

“The telenovela is the number one most-watched drama series on Showmax in Nigeria and continues to chart on Showmax’s Top 20 most-watched list of all titles in Nigeria.

“Wura is the Nigerian adaptation of the hit South African one Magic telenovela The River, which scored an International Emmy nomination.

“The series follows the lives of characters bonded and divided by the discovery of gold in Iperindo, a small community in Osun state where the story is set,” she said.

According to her, the story begins when the tough as nails anti-hero Wura Amoo-Adeleke, a mining magnate, discovers that there is no more gold left in her mines.

“Her desperation to find gold sets off a series of events that involve secrets, murder and betrayal.

“With a stellar cast of established and rising Nollywood stars including Yomi Fash-Lanso, Carol King, Ray Adeka, Iremide Adeoye, Ego Iheanacho, Martha Ehinome, and Lanre Adediwura, the series has garnered a devoted fan base since its premiere in January 2023.

“With the season finale of Wura, viewers can also enjoy a list of other great local shows such as Crime and Justice Lagos (Best TV Series, Best Picture Editor 2023 AMVCAs); Flawsome; Diiche; The Real Housewives of Lagos (Best Costume Designer 2023 AMVCAs).

“And The Real Housewives of Abuja. More Original African titles include The Mommy Club, Rosemary’s Hitlist, Faithless and Single Kiasi,” communications associate said.

According to her, Showmax offers a great selection of binge-worthy movies including popular titles like The Woman King, Father of The Bride, Torn Hearts, King Richard, and many more.

Showmax is also the home of Home Box Office (HBO) in Africa, with award-winning series including Succession, Game of Thrones and its prequel, House of the Dragon, Barry, The Last of Us, Love and Death, Industry and Euphoria.
