Shooting Stars chairman Akintunde quits

The Chairman of Globacom Premier League club, Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan,Toyin Akintunde, has quit his post, citing unsavoury situations for his decision.

Akintunde said the club fans are now being incited against him.

“The conditions under which I work are not palatable. I am a man of integrity, well dignified and will not allow my name to be messed up by fans who are being incited against me,” he said.

The former Oyo State general manager sports council was roundly booed by the fans during a recent home game against Kano Pillars.

He will thereafter stay away from the club’s last two home games against El Kanemi Warriors and Bayelsa United.

It was also gathered that a power tussle involving the Commissioner for Sports Dapo Lam Adeshina could well be responsible for the fans attack on the respected sports administrator and his decision to now throw in the towel.

Officials have said the board led by Akintunde have imposed players on the coaches.

The board do not have any power to run the club as all the powers reside with the sports commissioner.

The management have made attempts to hire a more seasoned coach for the club but they were frustrated from doing so.

Shooting Stars are just above the relegation zone despite huge investments by the Oyo State Government.

They are 16th on the 20-team table with 36 points from 28 matches.
