The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba (Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111, has described the the late former Head of the Interim National Government (ING), Chief Ernest Shonekan, as a “redoubtable man of candour whose life and times epitomised hardwired, honesty of purpose and diligence”.
Alaafin made the remark in a condolence message by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, to commiserate with the deceased family.
Oba Adeyemi said, it is written, “it is appointed for man to die once and after this, judgement.” But this we pray; that mercy reigns over judgement. Dear friend, I can’t explain how much I’d really miss you. You are an inspiration to the whole world. You were full of faith, courage and strength.
“I express my sincerest sympathy to the Governor of Ogun State, Mr. Dapo Abiodun, the family and the people of Ogun State. ” the hero’s loss saddens me.. We pray for strength for the family. We know how difficult this time must be.
“A good soul has passed on, a good man has gone up to heaven. With a heavy heart, we part our beloved Compatriot and Hero. I feel honoured to have met the deceased. He was a gift not only to Nigeria, but to the whole world.
“Late Chief Ernest Shonekan’s contributions to national growth and development were not only invaluable, but his penchant for truth and justice at all times would forever be remembered across the globe He was indeed a strong man with high mental magnitude. A truly lovable and kind person has let us and we will always miss his presence.
“His life was a worth living one. A man of honour and dignity. He will forever be in our hearts.
“Prayerful, loving, kind gentleman full of faith and godliness. We all part with a special person. His kindness will never be forgotten. Though he may not be with us physically, we know that he will always be in our hearts and minds.
“May God grant you strength and ease your pain. Words cannot express what I’m feeling. My commiseration to the whole family. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
I am immensely grief-stricken. Words are worthless. May he find rest and may we all see him again. I give my condolences to the entire family”.
