Senator Chukwuka Utazi has expressed shock over the death of Senator Ayogu Eze whom he took over from in the National Assembly.

Utazi said this on Thursday while reacting to the death of Eze which occurred on Thursday in a hospital in Abuja.

According to him, Ayogu Eze’s death is not only a great loss to Enugu State but the entire country.

He said Eze had a sterling tenure in the Senate, adding that as the Spokesman of the senate he was very courageous and fearless.

“Eze will be remembered as an intelligent, courageous and fearless politician.

Utazi, who was the Minority Whip of the 9th Senate, prayed God to grant Eze’s soul  eternal rest as well as grant the family members the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Reacting, former Senior Special Assistant on Protocols and Security to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Ambassador Ejike Eze, said that Ayogu was one man who excelled in whatever he did.

“As a journalist, he went around the world and he made his mark excellently; as a politician he kept in touch with his people and ensured that he used his position to attract developments and dividends of democracy to his constituency.

“He was a bonafide and a true son of Nsukka and patriotic Nigerian and as a spokesperson of the Senate during his time at the National Assembly, he knew his onus,” he said.

Amb. Eze, who was  the Senatorial Candidate for All Progressive Congress (APC) in Enugu North Senatorial District in the last general elections, said that Enugu State had lost a great man.

Also reacting, Mr. Emma Ugwuerua, former Enugu State House of Assembly member,  said the news of Eze’s death was a rude shock to him.

“We have lost a rare gem, a colossus, an astute politician, and a man with golden voice and oratory prowess.

“He made indelible marks in Nigerian politics as well as in the field of journalism.

“Eze’s death is indeed a colossal loss that will create a vacuum too difficult to fill,” he said.

Ayogu Eze, until his death, was a Federal Commissioner in the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
