Senate Minority Whip, Senator Tony Nwoye, has officially defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing the ongoing internal crises and multiple litigations affecting the ADC’s stability.
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read Nwoye’s resignation letter during Wednesday’s plenary session in Abuja, directing the Senate Clerk to update the chamber’s records accordingly.
In his letter, Nwoye, who represents Anambra South in the Senate, confirmed his resignation from the ADC and expressed his decision to join the NDC. He explained that the ADC’s internal divisions and the series of legal battles it was embroiled in had significantly hindered the party’s growth and unity.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and my intention to defect to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC),” Nwoye stated. “This decision has become necessary due to internal divisions and the ongoing multiple litigations at the Federal High Court, including judgments, which have adversely affected the creation and stability of the party.”
Senate President Akpabio, while acknowledging Nwoye’s resignation, wished him well in his new political venture.
