A delegation of the Senate, led by the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, on Tuesday visited the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to seek his advice on the appropriation bill and the two other Executive Bills before the Senate.
Ndume told State House correspondents after the meeting that the consultation would be regular.
The senate leader said that by transmitting power to Osinbajo before his private visit to London, President Muhammadu Buhari had set an example for others to emulate.
“He (President Muhammadu Buhari) transmitted to all Nigerians that the vice president is to act as the Nigerian President.
“So we came for the regular consultation, no big deal and nothing new and we will be doing more of this actually.

“And you know we have so many things going.

“So you should expect even me to come here because now we have the budget work in progress, we have the new money laundering and the second (executive) bill before the senate.

“We have so many things that we are looking in.

“We are looking at the economy and how it is performing. So, we came to consult with the vice president on some of these issues.’’
Ndume said some of the issues were at the developing level which necessitated the consultation.

He added that the administration is for every Nigerian and that he being the Senate leader would be in constant touch with the executive members

“This government is our government. I am the Senate Leader in this government, so my coming here today is not supposed to be a new thing. My coming here should even be more regular.

“This is not the first time we are coming here.

“But this is the first time we are having the vice president as acting President. That is one of the reasons we are here.

“This is because we are setting a new example.

“During the previous government, the President will just go and leave the place blank.

“But this time around, when our President goes for a few days, he transmits to all Nigerians that the vice president is to act as the President,’’ he added.

He said that the meeting had nothing to do with Senate President Abubakar Saraki’s Code of Conduct issue or to seek political solution to his ordeal.

He declined comment on the call for Saraki to abdicate his duty adding that Nigerians should adhere to the dictates of the constitution which proclaims an accused person innocent until found guilty by a competent court.
