The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Mr Mohammed Gumel as a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) and promotion of other senior police officers.

The Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of PSC, Mr Torty Kalu, said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

Kalu said the approval followed rigorous written examinations and oral interviews presided over by the Chairman of PSC, Mr Hashimu Argungu.

He said the new DIG was until his appointment, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Community Policing Project (CPP), Research and Planning.

Kalu said seven Commissioners of Police (CPs) were promoted to the rank of AIG, 13 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to CPs.

He said the newly promoted AIGs are Ihebom Chukwuma, Maxwell Olatokunbo, Abaniwonda Olufemi, Alonyenu Idu, Lawal Ayodeji, Agene Emmanuel and Vungmoh Kwaimo.

Kalu said the 13 newly promoted CPs are Babalola Johnson, Ali Fage, Cyril Obiozo, Adepegba Adetoye, Tabitha Bako, Ofem Arikpo, Edwin Ogbeghagha, Audu Bosso, Samuel Gimba, Alhaji Danladi, Richard Gara, Lasisi Titilola, and John Obiuagbaka.

The PSC spokesman said the commission also approved the promotion of 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of DCP.

He said 51 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were elevated to the rank of ACP while 542 Superintendents of Police (SPs) were promoted to the rank of CSP.

Kalu said 119 Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSPs) were promoted to SP while 12 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) were promoted to DSP.

He said Argungu had congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to brace up to their new responsibilities with greater commitment to the service of the nation.

The PSC boss told the officers that promotion comes with higher expectations and urged them to rededicate themselves to effective policing, protection of lives and property, and the maintenance of law and order.
