Security: Lagos NYSC recruits soldiers at orientation camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos State has recruited soldiers to provide security at its orientation camp.
State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Cyril Akhanemhe, disclosed this to newsmen on the sideline of the 2015 Batch ‘A’ swearing-in ceremony.
He said that the Director General of NYSC, Brig.- Gen. Olawunmi Jonhson, gave approval for the recruitment of the soldiers.
He assured corps members of adequate security during and after the orientation course.
“When I came to Lagos, my first visit was to the military formations, police and all security agencies; they have assured me that not one hair of my corps members will be removed.
“From what we saw during the elections, we knew that the security personnel are up to the task of securing the lives of Nigerians including the NYSC members.
“I am not afraid of the security of the corps members. More so, that my DG had given us permission to recruit new armed soldiers to do our perimeter security.
“I think they are battle ready; we are not praying for any of such, but I believe that they are on ground to ward off security challenges,’’ Akhanemhe said.
The state coordinator said that the camp had launched its Orientation Radio Broadcasting Station on frequency 88.7 FM to provide more information for corps members within the camp.
He said that the Chief Executive of Zanders Radio Station, Owerri, Mr Sylvester Zanders, donated a radio transmitter to the camp and had since commenced operations.
“A limited range transmitter was donated to the camp to enable corps members to access our radio station on 88.7FM anywhere on the camp.
The official said that Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora had commended the NYSC boss for leading corps members during the 2015 elections.
He said that the corps members had performed well as well as the NYSC.
“We have lent our incredible weight to credible elections and history is there to judge us a right”.
Akhanemhe said that the state would deploy its limited resources frugally, but adequately.
“Nobody can have so much funds at his disposal going by the global down turn in the economy.
“So, we are counting on our stakeholders, state government, local government and private organisations to help us in making sure that these corps members deploy their incredible talent to the development of the nation,’’ he said.
