Security committee pledges peaceful election in Bauchi

The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) has assured Bauchi residents of peaceful conduct of the upcoming general election in the State.

The committee said it had adopted effective strategies to ensure peaceful conduct of the election and urged politicians to remain calm and shun acts capable of disrupting peace in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Aminu Alhassan stated this while speaking at the end of the committee’s meeting on Monday in Bauchi.

Alhadsan, who is also the chairman of the committee, urged voters to conduct themselves peacefully during the election.

He said the meeting was aimed at mapping out strategies on security situation for the conduct of general elections.

According to him, the ICCES is an ad hoc committee of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), comprising various security agencies to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

“All security agencies are working together to ensure effective security provision and management of the elections,” he said.

Also speaking, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammmed Nura expressed readiness to conduct elections in the state.

“We are all ready for peaceful conduct of the elections in the state, ICCES and INEC will continue to work in synergy to ensure a safe and secure environment for the election.

“This election is critical, therefore, we must all continue to work together to protect the will of the Nigerian people,” he said.

Nura appealed to the general public and political parties to cooperate with the security agencies and the commission to facilitate conduct of peaceful and credible election.

Members of the ICCES include the Police, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Air Force, Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigeria Customs Service.

Others are Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Department of State Security Service,  National Youth Service Corps, National Orientation Agency, among others.
