Supreme Court: Intention of 'unknown security operatives' was to kill Justice Odili

Mary Odili

Armed security agents, on Friday, stormed the Maitama, Abuja home of Justice Mary Odili of the Supreme Court “to execute a search”.
It was not clear why they invaded the residence of the Justice who on Monday represented the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) at the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Justice Odili’s husband, Dr. Peter Odili, is former governor of Rivers State from 1999 to 2007.
He recently had a brush with men of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) when his passport was seized at the Abuja Airport, shortly after his return from London, Britain on medical trip.
He sued the Immigration Service, won the case and got his passport back.
On Friday, the armed security agents stormed Justice Odili’s residence but she resisted the attempt to raid her house, shouting: “I have nothing to do with you. Go and meet my husband. I have no business with you. I am a well respected Judge”.
It was learned that the scores of armed security agents were at a loss over what to do because Justice Odili’s voice attracted neighbours.
One of the agents was heard saying an order was given to “invade the house because of illegal activities’ going on there”.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) immediately denied carrying out any operation in Justice Odili’s residence.
A statement by Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said the commission did not carry out any operation at the home of Justice Odili. “If there was any such operation as claimed by the media, it was not carried out by the EFCC”.
