There was pandemonium at the venue of a factional state congress of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State on Saturday as thugs invaded the BTO Hall venue in Akure, the state capital.
The Isaac Kekemeke faction of the party in the state was holding the congress when the armed thugs struck.
The other faction, led by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and acting chairman, Mr. Adetimehin, held its congress at The Dome.
Members of the Kekemeke faction from the 18 local governments had arrived BTO Hall and started election process when the gun-wielding thugs, led by a prominent leader of the state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), invaded the venue in 10 buses.
They locked the doors and attacked everybody.
Politicians, journalists and others were beaten. About 40 were injured.
For more than 20 minutes and despite the presence of men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the thugs took over the premises.
Windscreens of many vehicles were shattered.
