Scores injured as militants storm Lagos suburb, abduct woman

Even when detectives from the Lagos State Police Command are still on the trail of hoodlums who abducted three students from Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School, Ikorodu, some militants have stormed Arepo, a community in Ogun State, injuring scores of the residents and kidnapping a woman.
Arepo is very close to Berger, on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
The incident happened in Orange and Voera Estates on Tuesday morning.
The invaders are believed to be oil thieves displaced by the Federal Government.
Numbering over 20, “the heavily armed hoodlums raided many houses in the early hours of the day, injuring many people in the process,” said a source who escaped through divine intervention.
“I was coming from the office when someone called me on phone that I should just stay at the junction of the Expressway in Journalists Estate because hoodlums had invaded the whole area. I was shivering due to the volume and sound of bullets being fired by the robbers. Interestingly, they were not challenged by the police. This is a serious matter,” he said.
He revealed that all the men the robbers met in the houses were beaten and injured. One of them, a parishioner in a nearby Catholic church, was severely wounded and is now hospitalised. Two women were also raped. Household items and cash were taken away.
They later escaped through the marshy area towards Agric in Ikorodu, Lagos, taking a woman as a shield.
“A woman resident was kidnapped and her whereabouts unknown. Since then, I don’t have the courage to move to my house. I stay with friends in Lagos now.
“This is not the first time this type of attack is happening and the Ogun State government and the Nigeria Police Force have not done anything. In fact, they carry on as if everything is normal. Nothing is normal here at all. Since that Tuesday, I have not gone to my house, can you imagine. And this is a country in which we have a president and a state where we have a governor. Haba. Is it not the responsibility of government to secure lives and property of the people? At Arepo, the residents are helpless and hopeless. Oil thieves and pipeline vandals, most times, hold the village to ransom.”
