Residents of Magodo GRA Phase 1, Gateway Zone, have cried out to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to prevail on the House of Assembly against its plan to convert wetlands in the area for residential purpose, saying it was not the prerogative of the legislature to decide on such matters.

The residents, in a letter to the governor, signed by the Chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA), Oyebode Ojomu, said it had become imperative to call on Sanwo-Olu, whom the bucks stops on his table, to call the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, and House Committee on Land Matters to a point of order.

The association appealed to the governor to prevail on the House to face its mandatory Legislative Matters/business halting it from incursion to Executive Functions.

The letter reads: “We have it on good authority that the Legislature passed a Resolution attempting to hoodwink LASSA and NTDA along several other Agencies to foist a premeditated selfish agenda laced with pecuniary interests to overrun our Estate.

“We view this unpalatable development as an abuse of office capable of eroding the peace in Magodo GRA Phase 1- Gateway Zone Estate.

“We, hereby, make a passionate appeal to His Excellency, Governor Sanwo-Olu, to use his good office to deter the LAHA from overrunning our Estate. Formal letters already circulated to many LASG Agencies to direct them to do all sorts of illegal actions capable of triggering chaos in our Community.”

The association also recalled that the State Government had made several public declarations affirming that the Green Belt adjoining their Estate in between Magodo GRA Phase 1 and 2 shall never be approved for Residential purposes.

“So where is the Legislature leading the State usurping Executive Functions creating basis for crisis. The Omo Oniles should go to Court if they have a strong case not manipulate the Legislative Arm for selfish purposes in matters that is in the purview of the Executive Arm of Government.

“We appeal to His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, to expressly intervene for the peace and order of Magodo GRA Phase 1,” the residents said.
