Saraki’s lawyers walk out on tribunal for refusing to stay proceedings

Lawyers defending Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), on Thursday, walked out on the tribunal because of what they described as ‘judicial rascality’.
Led by Saka Issau (SAN), Ahmed Raji (SAN) and Mahmud Magaji (SAN), the 26 lawyers said it was wrong for the tribunal to proceed with the case, despite the fact that it is pending at the Supreme Court.
Their action followed the refusal of the tribunal to grant their application for stay of proceedings in the asset falsification trial against Saraki.
To the tribunal, the trial must continue, despite the appeal at the Supreme Court.
The lawyers were livid.
They walked out immediately.
To the tribunal chairman, Danladi Umar, their conduct was an act of disrespect to the court.
“Their (lawyers) action was unwarranted”, he said.
Umar later adjourned the trial to November 19.
