Supporters of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State took over the Eagle Square, Abuja venue of the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday.
They were seen in their hundreds singing the praises of the governor.
To them, the reelection of Sanwo-Olu ‘is already assured’.
Many of them wearing ‘ankara’ were seen with banners of Sanwo-Olu’s reelection bid.
Standup banners of the governor’s reelection bid were also strategically positioned at the venue.
Supporters of presidential and other aspirants on the platform APC were also seen.
The supporters wearing different colours and costumes arrived as early as 9 a. m displaying posters and banners of the aspirants.
The supporters displayed pictures and banners of the aspirants, while dancing in a carnival-like manner.

Some of the groups included that of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for President, Gov. David Umahi for President and Rotimi Amaechi for President.

Some members of the group interviewed said they were in Abuja to showcase their aspirants.

Mr Musliu Ajani, a member of the Tinubu Supporters Group said they decided to draw support for Tinubu on their own.

”We decided to come together to raise funds and campaign for Tinubu because he is the best aspirant to take over from Buhari in 2023.

“We believe that he has all it takes for the job,” he said.

Accreditation of delegates to the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2022 National Convention has begun as delegates from across the federation thronged Eagle Square, venue of the convention amidst tight security.

The New National Working Committee (NWC) members are expected to be elected at the convention to manage the party’s affairs for the next four years.

The party is currently being managed by a Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), headed by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.

The Eagle Square, venue of the convention, located in the Central Business District, is already wearing a new look with different shades of decorations.

Petty traders are taking advantage of the large number of party faithful, both at the party secretariat and Eagle Square, to carry out brisk businesses as they hawk branded T-shirts, wrappers, hats, key holders, wristbands and other souvenirs.

Heavy security presence has also been noticed not just at the Eagle Square, but around the entrance to the venue.

Most hotels in Abuja city centre, and even in the satellite towns, have been fully booked as early as a week before the convention.
