Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, are due to discuss preparations for a meeting between the two countries’ presidents in Moscow on Thursday.

The conflicts in Ukraine, Syria, Libya and the Caucasus were also on the ministers’ agenda, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

They were further due to address energy cooperation.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry also announced Fidan’s trip.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is due to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Russia sometime soon, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed.

He said an official announcement would be made shortly.

Putin and Erdoğan were expected to discuss the grain deal on the Black Sea, suspended by Putin in July.

Ukraine is one of the world’s largest grain exporters and its deliveries are important for market price stability and fighting hunger in some of the world’s poorest countries.

A deal was agreed in 2022 to facilitate the export of grain from Ukraine after Russia blockaded the nation’s ports, mediated by Turkey and the UN.

However, Putin complained that Western sanctions were preventing Russian exports from reaching world markets
