Former Green Eagles winger, Adokiye Amiesimaka, says Nigeria`s chances of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia looks brighter with the 3-1 win over Algeria on Saturday.
Amiesimaka, former team manager, Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt, made the assertion on Saturday shortly after the Nigeria/Algeria match played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
“ I watched the game and I am very impressed with the outcome. Congratulations Super Eagles, congratulations Nigeria.
“The Algerians were not bad. They played in a rather tentative manner in the first 15 minutes, but we were on top of the game most of the time and the score line was reflective of that,” he said.
Amiesimaka said the Eagles attack was good while the defence needed to be worked on for future matches.
“I suggest that Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles Manager, still need to work on the defence. The attack is okay; they were coordinated and did a good job.
“ Our chances of qualifying for the next World Cup are very bright indeed,” the ex-international said.
Nigeria leads their group with six points while Cameroon is second with two points after playing 1-1 with Zambia in another group match on Saturday.
Zambia and Algeria have one point each.
Nigeria defeated Zambia 2-1 in their opening match while Algeria drew 1-1 in its first match against Cameroon.
Nigeria is drawn in Group B with Zambia, Algeria and Cameroon.
Godwin Bamigboye, Chairman of FCT Coaches Association, also commended the Super Eagles for their 3-1 victory against Algeria.
Bamigboye said the Super Eagles gave a good account of themselves adding that they made the country proud.
“I was expecting a win from the game but at the same time, I was also scared that the Algerians were coming to play us with all their strength because we know that they also have a set of good players.
“Victor Moses and Mikel Obi gave us a good performance in the first half, but at the resumption of the second half, I thought that they will play a revenge game because they missed about three scoring chances in the first half.

“The only goal of our opponent was a mistake from our defenders, thanks to Victor Moses for scoring the third goal. This is a welcome development from the Eagles.
“We thanks our players for making us proud again ,we also appreciate the technical crew for a job well done ,” he said.
Bamigboye urged the technical crew and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to immediately start preparation for the next match.
“We are progressively moving to book our ticket for the World Cup, they need to put more efforts in their next match against Cameroon.
“I will advise the coaching crew to intensify the team`s training, they should be training as if they want to play the world Cup, we need all the three points,” he said.
