BusinessToday Communication, owners of BusinessToday Online and BusinessToday Magazine, has given awards to five insurance firms, two pension fund administrators and Lagos State Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions,  Dr. Benson Akintola Oke, for their contributions to the insurance sector and the economy in 2016.
The Award ceremony, which took place at the 2016 Nigerian Insurance & Pension Awards organised by the online publication at Protea Hotel, Lagos, on Wednesday, saw Premium Pension Limited winning the Most Friendly/ Innovative  Pension Company of the Year award,  Royal Exchange Plc won the 2016 Insurance Company of the Year, while its Group Managing Director, Alhaji Auwalu Muktari, got the 2016  BusinessToday Online Insurance Man of the Year.
Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc got the Most Innovative Insurance  Brand of the Year award, even as Corporate Social Responsibility of the Year award went to Universal Insurance Plc.
Anchor Insurance Limited went home with the Retail Insurance Company of the Year award, while IEI Anchor Pension Managers Limited won the Pension Fund Administrator (PFA) of the Year award with the Excellence Award going to Oke.
Speaking on the motive of the award, which started four years ago, the Managing Director of the online newspaper, Nkechi Naeche, said it was designed to celebrate exceptional professionals and firms who have exceeded in their field and contributed to the growth of Nigerian insurance and pension industry in 2016.
This year’s award, according to her, was organised by setting standards to judge the operation of companies and state governments that have helped to foster growth and developments in insurance and pension operations.
The award, which is in seven categories, had 25 nominees of which eight winners emerged, even as  Oke was recognised for his contributions to the growth of Pension Scheme in Lagos State.
On the theme of the Award ceremony, which is ” Current annuity Fund arrangement: A Threat or Blessing To Insurers” she said the topic was chosen to help proffer solutions to the challenges presently confronting life insurance companies in the new arrangement.
Scores of business men and women, insurance professionals and editors attended the event.
