Ronaldo handed two-match ban

Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a two-match ban following his red card in Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Cordoba on Saturday.
The Portuguese international was sent off for the first time this season for kicking Cordoba’s Edimar Fraga. After a meeting of Spanish football’s disciplinary committee on Wednesday, a two-match ban for the FIFA Ballon d’Or winner was announced.
The 29-year-old will miss the next two Spanish La Liga games against Real Sociedad and Sevilla but will return in time for the derby against champions Atletico Madrid on 7 February.
Ronaldo has had a remarkable season, scoring 28 goals and providing nine assists in just 18 league appearances. Real lead the La Liga standings, four points clear and with a game in hand ahead of defending champions and city rivals Atletico, who are third.
