Misconduct: Police Service Commission dismisses 10 officers, demotes eight

Nigeria Police Force

Rivers State Police Command on Thursday warned that it would deal with anybody who perpetrated violence in the state.
Mr Muhammad Ahmad, a DSP, and spokesman of the command, gave the warning in Port Harcourt.
He said the police would arrest and prosecute trouble makers, irrespective of their social status.
Ahmad was reacting to the allegations by the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Okirika Local Government Area that the command had refused to investigate the attacks on the party’s office in Okrika.
Chief Tamuno Williams, the Chairman of APC in Okirika local government, had told a news conference in Port Harcourt that police refused to investigate the attacks on the party’s office.
He further alleged that the police refused to provide security for the party for a rally.
“The command will not fold its hands and allow the attacks on APC facilities in Okirika or any political party’s facility to go into oblivion; investigations into the cases are in progress,’’ Ahmad said.
According to him, the suspects would soon be arrested and brought to justice.
He said that the command was surprised that the allegations came after the state Commissioner of Police and political stakeholders in Okrika held a meeting on Feb. 5, 2015.
The police spokesman said that the meeting focused on the need for peace and the promotion of non-violent politics in the area.
He denied that the commissioner told anybody that he would not guarantee security for a rally anywhere in the State.
Ahmad said rather, the command and other security agencies were assessing the situation in Okrika with a view to re-assuring APC of adequate security.
According to him, the command had resolved to be neutral and provide adequate security for all the political parties in the state.
