Rivers crisis: Aliyu, Wamakko, Lamido, Kwankwaso meet IBB, Abdulsalami

babangida_aliyuFOUR governors – Aliyu Babangida (Niger), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto) and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano) on Monday held a private meeting with former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

Venue was the Presidential Lodge, Minna and it lasted for one hour, forty minutes.

The meeting was called at instance of the governors to find a solution to the various crises in the polity.

On Saturday, Wamakko, Lamido, Kwankwaso and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) held a meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Monday meeting with Babangida and Abubakar was held to solve the crises in the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Rivers State.

Babangida, who commended the governors for the bold move, described them as patriotic Nigerians.

He said: “I am impressed with their efforts. I just want to commend the governors here and some of their colleagues. I am very impressed because they see the problem of this country as our problem and they have taken the right step to consult widely in trying to find solution to some of the problems. They are real patriots. I am very happy and I told them so.”

Aliyu said the meeting was called to find a solution to various partisan crisis.

He said: “Now, we are consulting with our elders and leaders to look at some of the problems and solutions to the problems that some of us perceived we are facing

“The solution to Governors Forum crisis, political issues which have come up and we are consulting to make sure that we all understand the issues and we all come out with solution, and we will also carry our people together as we go along”.

On the Rivers crisis, he said: “There is no gathering in Nigeria now that Rivers’ issue will not come up, but our meeting today is a larger issue than even the Governor’s Forum. We are discussing on how to solve them.

The governors arrived at 12:01pm and the Generals arrived in a Blue S500 Mercedes Benz with registration number AE 323 WSH at 12:25pm.
