Nigeria’s football team, Dream Team VI, on Saturday in Salvador, Brazil defeated Denmark 2-0 to advance to the semi finals of the men’s football event of Rio Olympics.

The Nigerian team will now face Germany in the semi finals at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo on Wednesday.

Skipper John Mikel Obi and Aminu Umar gave Nigeria the two goals.

Mikel tapped in a low cross from Imoh Ezekiel in the 15th minute of the tie to score the first goal.

Goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel, arguably the man-of-the match, made several point blank saves to keep Nigeria in the lead as the first half winds down.

The Nigerian side renewed their vigour in search of a second goal.

They were, however, rewarded for their effort as Umar increased the tally through a header.

Nigeria will battle Germany in the semi-finals at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo on Wednesday.

In a match played earlier, Germany defeated Portugal 4-0.
