The House of Representative has urged the Federal Government to rehabilitate the Ngurore Bridge in Adamawa to save it from collapse.

This followed the adoption of a motion by Rep. Kwamoti Laori (PDP-Adamawa) during plenary in Abuja on Thursday.

Presenting the motion, Laori said the bridge had experienced wear and tear due to growing human and vehicular movement and heavy equipment usage, and environmental factors, needing maintenance.

He said an alternative route for commuters without comprehensive maintenance of the bridge would not be achieved without closing the bridge.

He said that the overstretched bridge might suffer further damage or collapse due to excessive
utilization by vehicles, heavy-duty machines and equipment, potentially limiting its full life span.

Adopting the motion, the House urged the Ministry of Works to carry out maintenance on the bridge.

The House also urged the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to regularly assess and maintain the bridge to ensure its safety and functionality.

The House mandated its committees on Works and FERMA to ensure
compliance.
