nigeria_house_of_repsThe House of Representatives on Tuesday held a valedictory session to honour late Solomon Lar, the pioneer National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, who described Lar as a man of peace, said that the only way to immortalise him was to emulate his virtues.

He said that the services and fatherly advice of Lar would be greatly missed at a time he was needed most.

He said the first executive governor of Plateau, who was concerned with the plight of the people, left a legacy of service to the people.

In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker, Mr Emeka Ihedioha, said the late politician was a motivator, emancipator and a leader who played a leading role in the development of democracy in Nigeria.

“Solomon Lar was a great ambassador and emancipator, ‘’he said.

Rep. Mulikat Akande-Adeola (PDP-Oyo), the majority leader, said that the late Lar believed in the unity of the country.

She said the late politician was detribalised and that his death came as a shock to most Nigerians.

Rep. Samson Osagie (APC-Edo), the minority whip, said that Lar fought for the enthronement of democracy in Nigeria.

He noted that during Lar’s tenure as chairman of the PDP, he handled the affairs of the party democratically.

“Solomon Lar is a man of peace, a democrat who runs the party democratically,” he said.

Rep. Forte Dike (PDP-Anambra) who spoke on behalf of the South-East, said that Lar as an advocate of peace in the country, bequeathed a legacy of peace.

Rep. Ayo Omidiran (APC-Osun) described Lar as a “committed democrat, a true progressive and a man of integrity’’.

She added that the late PDP chairman lived a life worthy of emulation by all Nigerians.

Rep. Bitrus Kaze (PDP-Plateau), said Lar was a man who believed in freedom for all, irrespective of ethnic background.

“ We have lost a father and a leader,” he said.

Sen. Victor Lar (PDP-Plateau) said the deceased was a famous leader of the people who protected their interest.

Sen. Barnabas Gemade (PDP-Benue) described Lar as a “dogged fighter for justice and peace who touched the lives of many Nigerians”.

In his tribute, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Na’ Abba, said that Lar was a defender of democracy whose vacuum would be difficult to fill.
