stephen_keshiNigeria’s home-based Super Eagles team on Tuesday in Abuja began their preparations for next year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for South Africa.

A statement by the team’s Media Officer, Ben Alaiya, said the players began the preparations with a training session at the FIFA Goal Project astro-turf pitch at the National Stadium.

“All 30 players invited had arrived camp by Monday evening as directed by the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) and the technical crew, and they all took part in the training session on Tuesday.

“Only Ejike Uzoenyi, who had a slight fever and was asked to rest for the day, failed to participate,’’ it said.

The statement said team assistant coach Daniel Amokachi led the early morning session in the absence of head coach Stephen Keshi.

Coaches Hyoudonou Valere and Ike Shorunmu assisted Amokachi during the session, with Keshi expected to join the rest of the squad on Thursday morning..

Keshi had stayed back in Brazil after the 2014 World Cup draws on Friday to select a camp site for the Super Eagles ahead of the mundial.

The tournament is billed to start on Jan. 11 and will end on Feb. 1.
