National Assembly

The House of Representatives, on Thursday in Abuja, directed the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to ensure prompt release of students abducted from State Model College in Igbonla, Epe, Lagos State.
This followed a motion under Matters of Urgent Public Importance, sponsored by Rep. Olawale Raji, representing Epe Federal Constituency, Lagos.
Moving the motion, Raji stressed the need to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators of the act.
The lawmaker said the college was attacked by suspected gunmen during the morning assembly in early hours of Thursday.
He said the Principal of the Junior Secondary School, Mr Oyesola and his counterpart in the Senior Secondary School, Mr Akinrinade, were kidnapped alongside with some students.
“This unfortunate incident is a setback to the expansion of access to education and determination of parents to ensure that their wards get basic education’’, he said.
The House condemned the action of the abductors under whatever guise, adding that it was against the tenet of seeking qualitative education.
The House urged the police and other security agencies to intensify surveillance in Epe and other schools in the state to avoid similar occurrence or any breach of security in future.
