Renowned columnist, Pini Jason, dies at 65

Pini JasonVeteran newspaper columnist and one-time publisher, Chief Pini Jason Onyegbadue, is dead. He died Saturday, aged 65 years.

It was learnt that Pini Jason, a veeran columnist with Vanguard newspaper and former Publisher of the defunct Examiner newspaper, died following complications after a surgery necessitated by abdominal problems.

One of his close friends, Kanayo Esinulo, said the surgery, “was successful but he developed complications this morning and died.”

Born on December 30, 1947, Chief Pini Jason Onyegbado left the industry he loved so much in 2007 to serve his state, Imo, as Special Adviser to then Governor Ikedi Ohakim but later left and returned to his journalism practice.

Reacting, Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra State, who spoke from the United States, said the death affected him personally. He described late Onyegbadue as one of the finest journalists who earned his living through hard work.

He condoled with the Imo State Government, journalists and the Onyegbadue family while praying God to grant the deceased eternal rest.
