Removal of billboard: Alaafin averts violence in Oyo as security agents arrest council boss

From Bode Durojaiye, oyo.

Security operatives on Thursday arrested the Chairman, Oyo-West Local Government, Mr. Soji Ojo-Awo.
Freedom Online learnt the arrest was not unconnected with the pulling down of the billboard of the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Teslim Folarin, which was said to have been erected in front of the local government secretariat late in the night.
PDP members were said to have lodged the complaints to both the police and the State Security Service in Ibadan, the state capital.
Ojo-Awo was said to have been summoned separately by the two security agencies for interrogation, after which he was made to write a statement and later detained.
The council chairman was said to have insisted that he knew nothing about the billboard destruction and that it was wrong and improper for the opposition political billboard to be erected at the entrance of the council secretariat at Ojongbondu.
Among those who besieged the state police headquarters, Iyaganku, Ibadan are the party’s candidate for House of
Representatives in Oyo Federal Constituency, Prince Adeniyi and the three caretaker council chairmen in the constituency
However, the intervention of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Olayiwola Adeyemi, saved the situation from snowballing into violence, as supporters of the All Progressives Congress had started mobilising for what they referred to as ‘’arbitrary use of security agencies by the PDP to harass, intimidate and victimize the opposition.’’
Some of the aggrieved APC members accused the PDP of removing posters of their candidates and replacing them with that of the PDP at midnight.
The council chairman was later released.
