Regular bathing, remedy to eczema, other skin diseases

President, Nigerian Association of Dermatology, Dr Bola Ogunbiyi, has said that regular bathing would rid the skin of eczema and other skin diseases.
She made the statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
She said that eczema was an inflammatory skin condition characterised by dry, itchy skin that could bring out clear fluid when scratched.

She said that environmental and genetic factors were the causes of eczema, adding that proper hygiene would remedy such skin anomalies.

“You will always have fungus in the environment; some people will have the genetic tendency to have them.

“What we advised is sensible healthcare. Have your bath as necessary as possible.

“Use simple moisturizer on your body; wear sensible makeup and cosmetics, it helps a lot,’’ she said.

The dermatologist advised the public to protect their body by applying simple moisturizer on their skin.

She decried the manner at which some people apply different kinds of creams and soap on their body.

According to her, indiscriminate use of body creams and soap can cause skin inflammation which could be detrimental to health.

“It is pathetic that several people are ignorant of the name of the soap and cream they use when asked, let alone knowing their components.

“The first thing to know while purchasing any of these items is their names and chemical component in order to make the right decision,’’ Ogunbiyi said.
