For allegedly inflicting injury on his landlord over quit notice, a 70-year-old businessman, Appinner Obilor, was on Thursday docked  in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Obilor, a resident of Oko-Oba, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and assault.
The accused committed the offences on July 21 at his residence, the prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court.
He said that the accused and two others at large conspired to assault his landlord, Mr Waheed Bello, over quit notice.
“The accused, who spent over five years in the complainant’s house without paying for the rent, conspired with his wife and son to beat up the landlord.
“The accused and family punched the complainant severally all over his body, tore his clothes and also used a plank to hit him on his head which caused him harm.
“The complainant reported the case and the accused was arrested,” the prosecutor said.
The offences contravened Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 173 prescribes three years jail term for assault while Section 411 attracts two years for conspiracy.
The accused denied committing the offences and was admitted to a bail of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Further hearing has been fixed for August 15.
