The Police Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Mr Banji Lawal as a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) to represent the South-West Geopolitical Zone in the Force Management Team.
The Head of Press and Public Relations of PSC, Mr Ikechukwu Ani said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
He said Lawal took over from Mr Sylvester Alabi, the DIG in charge of Force Criminal Investigation Department that represented the zone and retired on December 31.
The PSC spokesman said Lawal was Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) incharge of Border Patrol at the Force Headquarters, Abuja before the appointment.
Ani said the new DIG served as a Commandant, Police Training College, Ikeja, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Ekiti, Abia and Edo.
He said Lawal had appeared before the Commission in Plenary at its extraordinary meeting.
Ani said the new DIG went through written and oral examinations where he particularly commended the Community Policing programme of the Nigeria Police Force.
He said the Chairman of PSC, Mr Hashimu Argungu, congratulated the new DIG on his elevation and urged him to make himself relevant in the Police Management Team.
