Civil Human Rights Front, a broad-based democracy coalition, has announced it will cancel a scheduled march in Hong Kong this weekend after the group failed to secure police approval.
Bonnie Leung, a co-convenor of the group, said the group had lost an appeal on Friday and was concerned that proceeding with the march could endanger its participants.
She said the group’s first concern was “always to protect all the participants” and ensure that “no one could bear legal consequences” for participation.
She said the group had “no option but to cancel” a march to China’s government headquarters in Hong Kong scheduled on Saturday.
The decision follows the arrest of democracy activists Joshua Wong and Agnes Chow on Friday morning.
