The Association of Professional Ushers in Nigeria (APUN) on Monday urged the Federal Government to inculcate ushering and event management into schools curricula  to widen creativity in entrepreneurial capacity of the young ones.

Olúwakémi Oyèdéjì, the National President of APUN made the call while speaking in Lagos.

Oyèdéjì said, exposing children to such subject early in life could spur their creativity while they are also prepared to be entrepreneurs in the future

“Am of a compelling opinion that ushering services and event management among other entrepreneurship courses should be mandated subjects of study from primary school to tertiary level.

“This will further widen the creative entrepreneurial capacities of our youth, which in the long run will positively affect the Gross Domestic Products of our country,” she said.

Oyèdéjì urged government to work on creating an enabling and regulated environment for the businesses of ushering and event management to thrive.

“I believe that the private sector can contribute immensely to the growth and development of any nation’s economy.

“Commerce must be boosted for revenue generation in any clime and government needs to create an enabling environment for ushering and event management businesses to thrive better,” she said.

Oyèdéjì noted that the executive of APUN were currently focused on changing the narratives in the ushering industry in Nigeria.

She said ushering was a dignifying job, a means of livelihood for any purpose driven youth.

“We are driven by a mission on improving the industry, creating employment and providing empowerment for our youths.

“We are focused on providing a safe haven for all ushers in Nigeria and to set standards for professional conducts within the ushering industry in Nigeria.

“We have chosen to be a community uniting all ushering agencies in Nigeria, making them respectable and certified.

“We provide continuous training and certification courses for practitioners in the ushering industry as well as business assistance to both established and upcoming ushering agencies,” she said.
