Primary school holds centenary celebration in Kaduna

Many old pupils of Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School, Makarfi Central, established in 1922 in Kaduna State, attended its centenary celebration to reunite and honor some of the old students and teachers of the school.

The school started with 14 pupils when it was established as the second primary school after the one in Zaria district of old Kaduna State.

Speaking at the occasion held at the school premises in Makarfi LGA, the Chairman Organizing Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Abdulkadir, Garkuwan Zazzau, said the school had produced many distinguished personalities.

He said that the old boys had held several positions in the state and country.

He explained that the old boys came together to reunite and support the school by reaching out to other old pupils who were doing well in their various fields of endeavor to support the school.

Abdulkadir added that the renovation of the school had commenced, while commending those that supported the association financially and in kind.

In his remarks, Chairman of the occasion, former Governor of Kaduna State, an old pupil, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, called on the old boys to raise funds to support the school.

“We must learn to launch endowment fund to support our alma mata as old students of the schools. We must always be ready to support such school by registering our Old Boys Association.

“All of us are fortunate in life, therefore we should not forget our former school so as to render our support to education for others coming behind us to also benefit,” he said.

According to him, renovating schools is not the solution to better education but employing qualified teachers and provision of learning materials.

Also in a remark, the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmad Bamalli, called on parents and guardians to ensure that their children acquired western and Islamic education.

He said that it was the best way to attain good life in the world and hereafter.

He urged thee old boys to continue to support their alma mata, noting that government could not handle everything alone.

The emir also urged state governments to continue supporting public schools, saying that majority of children attended such schools, hence the need to improve their standards.

On his part, Chairman of Finance Committee for the centenary celebration, Mr Lawal Meyere, assured the gathering that the Old Boys Association would be registered, to be supporting the school.
