Pregnant German player ruled out of World Cup

Germany midfielder, Fatmire Alushi, will miss the Women’s World Cup in Canada as she is expecting her first child.
Alushi, 27, was part of the Paris St-Germain team beaten 2-1 by Frankfurt in Thursday’s Women’s Champions League final in Berlin.
“Of course, I would have liked to have played in the World Cup, but there are things in life that are just more important than football,” she said.
Germany’s World Cup campaign starts against Ivory Coast on June 7.
Germany team coach Silvia Neid says 79-times capped Alushi’s absence from the World Cup squad will be a “major loss”.
“She is an important player for us,” Neid said.
“But I am of course happy for her and I wish her all the best for this new stage in her life.”
The 24-team Women’s World Cup will take place between June 6 and July 5, with matches to be played in Edmonton, Moncton, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver.
